Advanced Placement for LPNs

Advancement Placement for LPNs

The Practical Nursing to Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) advanced placement pathway is designed for licensed practical nurses (LPN) who want to become registered nurses (RN). Theoretical knowledge paired with hands-on clinical experience prepares students for complex and diverse roles as a registered nurse in various healthcare settings. Students will receive advanced placement in the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing program, receiving credits from their knowledge and experience as an LPN.

Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN exam. Passing the exam leads to RN licensure, enabling graduates to pursue growth and advancement in their nursing careers.

Applicants who are licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) seeking advanced placement must earn a satisfactory score on the admissions exam and complete the following courses, or their equivalent, with a grade of “C” or greater before being considered for admission:

  1. BIOL201 – Human Anatomy & Physiology I
  2. BIOL202 – Human Anatomy & Physiology II
  3. PSYC101 – General Psychology I
  4. NURS180 – Concepts of Professional Nursing (Exemptions are granted if you graduated from an accredited PN school, successfully passed NCLEX-PN within the last 12 months, or are currently working on a medical-surgical unit as an LPN.)
  5. In addition, HSCI202 Pharmacology can be taken before admission or in the spring semester as a co-requisite with NURS201. It MUST be completed with a “C” or better by the summer semester (nursing semester 3) NURS210.

Admissions Requirements

  • Provide all transcripts and current LPN license to admissions. Email admissions@ccbc.edu to schedule an appointment or call 724-480-3504.
  • Complete the above courses by the end of the fall semester in which you are applying to the LPN to RN program
    • Note: Placement into Nursing ADN will be on a SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS. The previously listed requirements are minimum criteria. Applicants who meet the minimum criteria will be considered for admission into the program. However, meeting minimal criteria does not guarantee admission into the program. Available spaces will be divided equally between re-admission applicants and LPN advanced placement applicants.

Nursing ADN

Our Associate Degree Nursing program will begin fall 2026. You can still START STRONG at CCBC! Submit your admissions application to enroll in general education classes today!

The ADN graduate receives an Associate in Applied Science Degree and is eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
